Welcome to the BASC website.
Burton Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1878, and apart from a
few years break in the 1960's has been in continuous existence for over
100 years. Its aim is, and always has been, the pursuit of excellence
among swimmers. To this end, swimmers are given excellent coaching by an
enthusiastic team under the guidance of our newly appointed Club Coach, Mr
Martin Hurdman,
who has a vast experience of swimming teaching and coaching. All Burton coaches, undertake coaching for the love of the
sport and is carried out in a professional manner.
We currently swim in the Leicester league and also
Staffordshire league.
Coaching takes place at the
Meadowside Leisure Centre and
Repton School, where facilities are second to none in the area, and
includes the use of audio-visual equipment purchased by the club.
Swimmers are given every encouragement to swim competitively and
regular, friendly galas are held throughout the year to give young
swimmers experience prior to competing in the Leicestershire and
Staffordshire Leagues, as well as competing in the Staffordshire Age
Group Championships.
As you may be aware, the Meadowside is currently looking for ways to
improve the facilities for the community and plans are being drawn up
for some major refurbishments. This will have consequences for the club
as there could possibly be a brief close down period of the pool.
To maintain our swimming pool-time we are seeking alternative locations
and when we know more about the Meadowside's plans we will inform
parents and swimmers as soon as possible. We hope to work alongside the
Meadowside so that our suggestions for improvements are taken on board
and to make the transition as smooth as possible. I'm sure we would all
agree that the Meadowside is in need of these changes and in the long
term they can only benefit our club.
We also welcome requests from other local clubs and try to
accommodate where time and space is available. Currently Triathletes
from Meynell Valley
Hunters Triathon Club join us.
Social events are also held throughout the year. All swimmers are
welcome especially, 7, 8 and 9 year olds. Training
nights and times vary depending on ability.
If you would like to improve your swimming, be competitive, and join
a lively, friendly and successful club please
contact our club secretary - Mrs Doreen Smith on (01283) 548902.
We would like our competitive swimmers to be aiming for competing in
the County Swimming championships so we have included
times for county swim qualifications and their
current records.
